Liverpool and Newcastle both want to sign Bryan Mbeumo in a summer transfer.
Liverpool are reportedly battling with Newcastle for the potential signing of Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo after the Cameroon forward admitted that he “wants to play” in the biggest competitions. The Reds can supply Champions League football and if Mohammed Salah were to depart this summer, Mbeumo offers a Premier League-proven replacement on the right flank. Arne Slot could even send a player in the opposite direction to sweeten the deal, as Express Sport takes a gander at some of the likelier candidates.
Fabio Carvalho
Liverpool starlet Fabio Carvalho shone on loan at Hull last season, scoring nine goals in 20 Championship appearances in the second half of the campaign, prompting interest from the English top-flight.
It remains to be seen whether the 21-year-old Portuguese talent is in Slot’s plans for the coming year. But with an array of attacking talent at the Dutchman’s disposal, he may be willing to part ways with Carvalho and offer Brentford a highly-rated forward in exchange to sweeten the blow of losing Mbeumo.
Fabio Carvalho excelled in the Championship with Hull.
Kostas Tsimikas
Kostas Tsimikas slipped down the left-back pecking order at Anfield following the emergence of Joe Gomez in an inverted role, opening the door for Liverpool to cash in this summer and allow the Greek defender to find first-team football elsewhere.
Following injury to Rico Henry, Brentford took Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon on loan last year but with the Spaniard unlikely to return, Tsimikas could be a solution to ease the burden on the returning England defender when he is back to full fitness.

Sepp van den Berg
Sepp van den Berg has already publicly asked to leave Liverpool in an early issue for Slot days into his reign, but Brentford could offer a landing spot for the 22-year-old centre-back.
With Ben Mee, Ethan Pinnock and Zanka all over 30, Thomas Frank may want to introduce a younger option at the back, with Van den Berg very happy to cut ties with Liverpool.
“In all honesty, I am no longer being looked after. Now I want to keep playing weekly and develop myself further,” Van den Berg said.
“But I understood very well that I was not going to play ahead of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip or Ibrahima Konate. I still felt I could be right behind them, but when I was not given a chance again, I told them to sort it out and that I wanted to leave again. Liverpool did not radiate confidence in me all this time, but they now want to hinder my future.”
Stefan Bajcetic
Stefan Bajcetic played just 98 minutes across three appearances for Liverpool last season in a year that was dogged by injuries.
Liverpool have since recruited Alexis Mac Allister and Wataru Endo for the deeper midfield role that Bajcetic featured in when he broke into the team, potentially paving the way for a loan move in order to get the 19-year-old’s rhythm back.
The Spaniard is expected to be fit for the start of the new campaign and would add fresh impetus and additional physicality to the Brentford midfield, should a deal be struck sending him in the opposite direction to Mbeumo.
