Jose Mourinho lands scathing Chelsea dig in Tottenham comparison after Pochettino exit

Jose Mourinho aimed a crushing dig at Chelsea when quizzed on what his thoughts are on the ongoings at his former side.

The Blues opted to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino at the end of last season, despite an impressive end to the campaign which saw his plan begin to show signs that it was coming together en route to a sixth-place finish.

Enzo Maresca is set to replace the Argentine in the Stamford Bridge dugout after guiding Leicester City to promotion from the Championship, and the ex-Manchester City coach will need to hit the ground running at his new club to gain the confidence of the entire Chelsea fanbase.

With over £1billion spent on new signings and the Blues looking no closer to being capable of winning the Premier League, questions have been raised about the ownership of Todd Boehly and co and what the future may hold if they are not able to learn from their mistakes.

Mourinho is among those unsure about how Chelsea are operating, claiming that at least with his fellow former side Tottenham, it is easy to understand the aspirations of the club.

Asked for his thoughts on the Blues when speaking to TNT Sports, the soon-to-be new Fenerbahce boss said: “I have no idea. I have no idea. Tottenham, I have an idea.

“This is Tottenham. Always fighting to be fourth, which would be amazing between the fourth, fifth and sixth. Next season Europa League. Of course, they can win it.

“They look stable and they are investing more. Amazing club. Amazing facilities. Such a beautiful stadium. You can feel it. Chelsea, I really don’t know.”

Chelsea are expected to dive back into the transfer market in the hope of improving, with marquee signings anticipated at both ends of the pitch. Maresca has made it clear that he is keen to mark his arrival by signing at least a goalkeeper and a striker.

Acquiring the services of a defender was also viewed as a priority, and Chelsea are on course to tick that off of their to-do list. The Blues are leading the race to secure the signature of Tosin Adarabioyo as a free agent after the centre-back ran down his contract with Fulham. Newcastle were previously expected to acquire the services of the Englishman but saw their contract offer trumped by Chelsea.
