Aron Taylor-Smith kicked off the British Touring Car Championship’s fifth meeting of the season at Oulton Park in fine form as he topped the times in opening practice.
Basking in bright sunshine, the Power Maxed Racing driver hustled his Vauxhall Astra to the summit of the leaderboard late one after setting a best time of 1:24.926.
Hot on the heels of the Irishman was Dan Rowbottom, who finished 0.036s off the top time while a last-gasp lap from Ronan Pearson secured him third overall, two tenths further back.
Tom Ingram – who had sat at the summit of the times for the first half of the session – finished fourth while Dan Cammish ensured there were two Ford Focus machines inside the top five.
West Surrey Racing’s Jake Hill was the first of the BMW runners in sixth, and he was followed by his stablemates Adam Morgan and Colin Turkington.
Completing the top ten was reigning champion and current championship leader Ash Sutton and Tom Chilton.
Free Practice 2 around the 2.26-mile circuit is scheduled to get underway at 12:30.
