Transfer news LIVE: Man Utd double deal as Arsenal snub Viktor Gyokeres

We are exactly two weeks away from the first Saturday of the 2024/25 Premier League season, in a timeframe which will sound alarm bells at clubs at both ends of the table. Transfer pursuits will need to be accelerated over the next few days if teams want their new signings integrated into their squads before the campaign gets underway.

Manchester United and Chelsea headed into this summer with plans of major overhauls, and both clubs are in the heart of those rebuilds. North London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal are set to be shopping in the same market as the window begins to draw to a close, with acquiring the services of a forward a priority for both Ange Postecoglou and Mikel Arteta.

Liverpool are yet to make a move in the window so far, though Arne Slot’s side look as if they will strike late amid reports that four signings are set to be eyed. Several stars, such as Joe Gomez and Wataru Endo, have been linked with Anfield exits which would leave major holes in the squad if replacements are not lined up.

Newcastle set to open contract talks with Anthony Gordon

Newcastle are reportedly set to offer Anthony Gordon a new contract when he returns from his extended break.

The winger has been heavily linked with Liverpool in recent weeks, with an agreement said to have been in place for him to join the club as part of a deal which would have seen Joe Gomez join the Magpies.

However, sales elsewhere meant Newcastle were not forced to offload the England international to raise funds, and they are now working towards retaining his services.

The Athletic report that the Magpies intend on offering Gordon a new deal upon his return from his extended holiday in an attempt to fend off interest from Liverpool.

Liverpool make Guehi hijack decision

Liverpool do not appear set to hijack Newcastle’s move for Marc Guehi.

It emerged earlier this week that the Magpies have opened talks with Crystal Palace over the defender in a negotiating move which would have caught the attention of several other top clubs.

Liverpool have been linked with Guehi previously, but The Times report that Arne Slot’s side have withdrawn from the race and do not intend on trumping any offer made by Newcastle.

Man City star denied Al Ittihad switch

Ederson will not join Saudi side Al Ittihad this summer, reports Fabrizio Romano.

After negotiations failed to show any positives between the two clubs, Al Ittihad opted to turn their attention to alternative targets and are on the cusp of acquiring the services of Predrag Rajkovic from Mallorca instead.

It was previously speculated that Ederson would be open to joining a Saudi side this summer after growing restless at the Etihad Stadium and thus it remains to be seen whether other teams come forward who can match City’s pricey demands.

Arsenal end their pursuit of Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal are reportedly set to end their pursuit of Sporting star Viktor Gyokeres.

The Swedish international has an £86million release clause, and has also been tracked by the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool.

According to The Independent, the Gunners are set to turn their attention away from Gyokeres as they believe that his strength and hold-up play does not suit what Mikel Arteta needs in a No. 9.

Arsenal are in the market for a striker who is capable of drifting out wide and running the channels, prompting the club to cool their interest in Ivan Toney and move Newcastle’s Alexander Isak higher up their list of targets.

Man Utd see double deal offer rejected

Manchester United have seen a joint-bid for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui rejected by Bayern Munich, reports The Athletic.

The Red Devils are keen to acquire the services of both defenders as soon as possible, with five-year contracts already agreed with both players.

United and the agent of both players felt that the bid would ‘satisfy’ Bayern’s demands and they have therefore been left surprised that the bid was knocked back.

Talks are ongoing to find a resolution.
