Arsenal are looking to continue their unbeaten start in the Premier League against Southampton
Arsenal continue their Premier League title pursuit against a struggling Southampton today (Saturday). The Gunners, who have been hot on the heels of Manchester City for the past two seasons, have kicked off the 2024/25 season strongly, currently sitting in third place, one point behind early frontrunners Liverpool.
Mikel Arteta’s side could have been in an even better position but were denied a landmark victory at City by John Stones’ late equaliser after playing with 10 men for over half the match. However, they narrowly escaped against Leicester last weekend, winning 4-2 thanks to a pair of added time goals.
Their next challenge is a beleaguered Saints team, currently languishing second from bottom after suffering five losses in their first six matches since returning to the top-flight. Here are all the details you need to follow the big game, which will not be broadcast live on UK TV…
Why isn’t Arsenal vs Southampton on TV in the UK
The match was not chosen for broadcast by Sky Sports and TNT Sports. In their Saturday 12.30pm slot, TNT opted for Crystal Palace vs Liverpool, while Sky will air Everton vs Newcastle at 5.30pm.
Sky’s Super Sunday line-up features Aston Villa’s home match against Manchester United at 2pm and Tottenham’s trip to Brighton at 4.30pm. The Arsenal vs Southampton clash, due to its 3pm kick-off time, is subject to English football’s blackout, spanning from 2.45pm to 5.15pm.
This longstanding tradition bars any live broadcast of Saturday 3pm fixtures within the UK. Calls for the abolition of the rule have been growing in recent years but a Premier League spokesperson said last year that the blackout exists to “protect attendances throughout the English football pyramid”.
