Everything you need to know about Wednesday’s Carabao Cup action
The Carabao Cup is back this week with two Premier League heavyweights entering the competition. Tuesday night saw Manchester City, Chelsea and Aston Villa get underway, with Arsenal and Liverpool joining the mix this evening.
Manchester United are already through to the next round after getting their campaign underway with a comprehensive 7-0 win over Barnsley during last week. There will also be EFL representation from the likes of Preston North End, Sheffield Wednesday and Stoke City.
Thanks to the EFL’s new TV deal with Sky Sports, every match in the competition can now be viewed live. Arsenal vs Bolton will be shown on the new Sky Sports+, which can be found on channel 412 on your Sky TV guide.
Liverpool are the reigning Carabao Cup champions
The match can also be streamed on NOW, which features Sky Sports+, and the Sky Sports app, provided you have the required subscription. Meanwhile, Liverpool’s first League Cup clash will be broadcasted on the Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football channels.
Liverpool will be aiming to extend their remarkable record as the most successful team in Carabao Cup history with 10 wins. They are also the current champions, having beaten Chelsea 1-0 in the 2023/24 season’s final, scoring deep in extra time to hand Jurgen Klopp his final piece of silverware with the Reds.
New manager Arne Slot will be hoping to translate Liverpool’s impressive league form to success in his first League Cup game in charge. Their opponents West Ham are yet to win the trophy, having booked their spot in the third round thanks to Jarrod Bowen’s 88th minute goal against Bournemouth in August.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal play Bolton Wanderers at home
West Ham’s performances under new boss Julen Lopetegui this season have left a lot to be desired. He has managed one draw and three losses in their first five league games, including a 3-0 defeat at home to Chelsea last Saturday.
Arsenal were knocked out of the competition by West Ham last season after falling to a 3-1 defeat at the London Stadium. Manager Mikel Arteta has admitted his side suffered injuries in the dramatic 2-2 draw at Manchester City on Sunday, providing an opportunity for several young Gunners to shine.
Bolton face a daunting challenge as they head to the Emirates Stadium to take on the Premier League title contenders. The Trotters are currently languishing in 18th place in League One after a poor start to their season.
