West Ham told to sign £40m Southampton ace Ward-Prowse this summer

It is a “no-brainer” for West Ham to pursue the signature of Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse this summer, according to journalist Paul Brown.

Brown noted that the Saints star could be available for £40million following his club’s relegation to the Championship.

Southampton finished the Premier League in bottom place with just six wins from their 38 matches.

“I don’t think anyone should be too concerned by the fact that Southampton went down,” Brown told GIVEMESPORT. “I think he gave them everything. He’s a dead ball specialist, he’ll bring that to West Ham too.

“I think he’s the kind of player that West Ham need. I think it’s a no-brainer for them to do that deal. If it’s £40m? Bite your hands off.”

It really is a “no-brainer” that the Hammers should be doing all they can to secure the services of Ward-Prowse this summer.

The Saints midfielder has been a class act on the pitch for several years now, with his displays made even more impressive given Southampton’s struggles in the division.

In a similar vein to West Ham star Declan Rice, Ward-Prowse could have left the club long ago, but he decided to stay and help the Saints move in the right direction.

But again, like Rice, it seems that this summer is the perfect time for a new challenge, and importantly one where his talents will be really appreciated.

While it is impossible for the Hammers to replace Rice, if indeed he does go, they could do a lot worse in central midfield than Ward-Prowse.

In a major boost to West Ham, the latter will also be available for a much-cheaper fee now that his club have dropped down to the Championship.
