Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk has made it clear he’s in no hurry to resolve his future at the club, despite not being offered a new contract as he approaches the last six months of his current deal.

The Reds’ skipper, along with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, will soon be free to negotiate with other teams, but Van Dijk remains unfazed, focusing solely on the upcoming match against Leicester.

“There is no deadline at all,” he stated.

“I’ll see what the future holds. I focus fully on Leicester.”

Salah became Liverpool’s fourth all-time leading scorer with a brace against Spurs, and after the Egyptian provided two more assists in a 6-3 victory where Liverpool could easily have hit double figures, Van Dijk also highlighted the importance of Salah’s defensive contributions.

“We always need a complete performance from him because all the defensive work that he can put in as well is very important for us as the last line,” he said.

However, when questioned about Salah’s prospects for the next season, Van Dijk simply responded: “I don’t know.”

Liverpool have clinched the Christmas number one spot in the Premier League for the seventh time, but history shows this does not guarantee ultimate success. Speaking on past seasons, Virgil van Dijk warned against complacency: “We’ve been there, we’ve done it,” he remarked.

“We’ve lost twice in very small margins. The key is to take it game by game.”

He added, “Going top of the league at Christmas will make Christmas nice for all of the Reds around the world. But we want to be there in May as well.”
