Vincent Kompany could turn to four current and ex-Manchester City stars if he’s appointed as the new manager at Bayern Munich.

Following several setbacks in their search for a new gaffer, Kompany has emerged as a surprise candidate to take over from Thomas Tuchel at the Allianz Arena.

That’s despite Kompany’s Burnley finishing 19th in the Premier League this season, having won just five of their 38 league games all year.

And while he is under contract at the Turf Moor outfit until June 2028, Bayern are believed to be considering a managerial move for the Belgian this summer.

If he is to take over at the Bundesliga giant, it’s likely Kompany will follow suit from his time at Burnley and target former and current City players in the transfer market.

Therefore Express Sport have highlighted four City stars who could be on Kompany’s transfer wishlist at Bayern…

Aymeric Laporte

There was a time when Aymeric Laporte’s arrival at the Etihad Stadium cut short Kompany’s game time, but the Spanish defender could represent the ideal signing, if he’s appointed as Bayern boss.

Laporte ended his five-year stay at the Manchester outfit last summer, when he became one of several Premier League aces to move over to the Saudi Pro League.

However, things haven’t necessarily gone to plan for Laporte, who criticsied various aspects of the Saudi project shortly after arriving at Al-Nassr.

Speaking in January, the left-footed defender said: “They haven’t made it easy for us. In fact, there are many players who are dissatisfied, but hey; We are working on it every day, negotiating so to speak, and seeing if it improves a little because this is something new for them too, having European players who already have a long career.”

Given Laporte’s frustrations around his time in the Middle East, along with Bayern’s troubles at centre-back, Kompany could be on the phone with his ex-team mate in an attempt to lure him to Bavaria.

Sergio Gomez

Manchester City v West Ham United - Premier League

From one Spaniard to another, with the somewhat forgotten Sergio Gomez another player Kompany could be tempted by at Bayern.

And while Gomez’s arrival in Manchester might’ve come well after Kompany left the club, the ex-City skipper is well acquainted with the 23-year-old from his time at Anderlecht.

Gomez featured 47 times under Kompany at the Belgian Pro League side, netting seven goals and collecting a further 15 assists.

It was on the recommendation of Kompany that Gomez earned his £11million move to the Premier League champions, but under Pep Guardiola, the left-sided forward turned-defender has struggled for minutes.

But given Alphonso Davies is tipped to be one of the high-profile exits at Bayern this summer, Gomez could provide the record champions with a suitable – and cost-effective – replacement.

Stefan Ortega

Sticking with players currently on the City roster, few signings would appear more sensible than Stefan Ortega joining Bayern this summer.

As a goalkeeper who has excelled under Guardiola, Ortega already boasts the skillset to thrive in Kompany’s system.

Plus, as a German native, he would also help top up Bayern’s homegrown quota rule.

Arriving at City in the summer of 2022 on a free transfer Arminia Bielefeld, Ortega has shone as Ederson’s deputy, with talk of an exit during the upcoming transfer window already starting to grow.

Jadon Sancho

PSG v Dortmund - UEFA Champions League Semi-final

And finally, a player who never actually made a senior appearance for the City first-team, but one who has proven himself as a star player in the Bundesliga already.

Trained by the City Academy, Jadon Sancho left the Blues for his first spell in Germany, joining Borussia Dortmund in 2017.

An ill-fated move to Manchester United followed, before Sancho rejoined Dortmund on loan this season, where he has once again caught the eye for the Champions League finalists.

It’s unlikely Dortmund will have the finances to tempt United into a permanent sale this summer, meaning a Bayern side managed by Kompany could be presented with a window of opportunity.
