Professional footballer turned endurance athlete and childhood cancer activist, Ashley Cain, is set to become the first and only man ever to complete the ULTRAMAN Challenge – once running, once cycling and once kayaking three full lengths of Great Britain — in under three months.

Preparing to make history on Saturday, the 33-year-old will kayak to John O’Groats for midday and complete the final kayaking leg of this world’s first challenge.

Cain previously stopped at John O’Groats at the end of his first leg of running from Lands End, all the way to Caithness, where he was greeted by World’s Strongest Man, Tom Stoltman.

Since beginning the challenge in May, Ashley has endured 80 gruelling days suffering ligament damage, muscle tears, stress fractures, blisters, sickness and sores all in the name of his daughter, Azaylia, and to help fight childhood cancer.

The motivation for this unbelievable endeavour is the tragic passing of Ashley’s (and his then partner Safiyya Vorajee’s) baby daughter, Azaylia Diamond Cain, of leukaemia in April 2021 at just 8 months old.

This unimaginable tragedy led the couple to create The Azaylia Foundation to help fight childhood cancer and to help change the attitudes and a system that still considers this cruel illness to be rare in children.

Smashing his original GoFundMe target of £100,000, he is now on track to double that figure to raise £200,000 towards charity’s Childhood Cancer PhD Scholarship Programme.

Already funding five PhDs at the University of Oxford and the University of Birmingham, his ambition is to reach a game changing target of 20 PhDs in five years.
