Premier League clubs have entered the final week of the summer transfer window. Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea are all expected to be busy over the coming days as they seek to bolster their respective squads.
Friday’s business could see Manuel Ugarte become a step closer to becoming a United player. The Red Devils are reported to have revisited their interest from earlier in the window and could strike an agreement for the defensive midfielder, who is valued by Paris Saint-Germain at around £51million.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Mikel Merino, who will become only the second major addition at the Emirates Stadium this summer. The Spain international is due in London to complete a £40m switch from Real Sociedad.

Eddie Howe downplays Kieran Trippier speculation
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has downplayed speculation linking Kieran Trippier with a departure.
Howe says he is ‘surprised’ by reports claiming Trippier will play a less prominent role at the club this season.
It has been suggested that the defender wants to leave the Magpies and that he has interest from Everton.
“The situation is business as usual,” Howe said.
“Tripps has trained really well this week. I’m surprised at a lot of the stories that have come out. A valuable member of the squad, his professionalism has been first class.
“He has only had two weeks’ training, hence the reason not to start him at the weekend and Tino’s had a really good pre-season. He’s valued by all of us.”

Mikel Arteta provides update on Eddie Nketiah
Mikel Arteta insists Eddie Nketiah will train with Arsenal today amid interest in the striker.
Nketiah is the subject of strong speculation linking him to Nottingham Forest.
But Arteta said: “I expect Eddie to train with us today. To be prepared for tomorrow. Whatever happens will happen if it’s good for everybody.”
Kieran Trippier wants Newcastle exit
Kieran Trippier is reportedly keen to leave Newcastle before the end of the transfer window.
The England defender has been pushed down the pecking order under Eddie Howe.
Trippier is reported to have interest from Everton.
Raheem Sterling rules out Saudi Arabia move
Raheem Sterling has ruled out a mega-money switch to Saudi Arabia, according to the Daily Mail.
Sterling is one of 13 players who are part of what has been dubbed Chelsea’s ‘bomb squad’.
The 29-year-old is set to leave Stamford Bridge in the next week but his options seemed to narrow, in part due to his reported £300,000 per-week salary.
There is interest from Aston Villa and Crystal Palace – but it remains to be seen whether a deal can be struck.
Mikel Merino set for Arsenal medical
Mikel Merino is widely reported to be due in London to undergo a medical with Arsenal.
The Gunners have struck a deal in the region of £40m to sign the former Newcastle midfielder from Real Sociedad.
Merino is set to be the final piece on Mikel Arteta’s midfield jigsaw, playing alongside Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard.
Manuel Ugarte update
Man Utd have held ‘positive’ talks with Paris Saint-Germain over the signing of Manuel Ugarte, Sky Sports claim.
United walked away from a deal for the uruguayan earlier this summer, baulking at the £51m asking price.
However, the move is back on and discussions are ongoing.
While both clubs would favour a permanent move, it is reported that a loan with an obligation to buy remains a possibility.
