Express Sport brings you all the latest
The return of the Premier League has not disappointed, though there are still the final few weeks of the summer transfer window for clubs to focus on as well as the new campaign.
Arsenal kickstarted their title surge with a 2-0 victory over Wolves on Saturday, with Kai Havertz highlighting why his side are no longer in the market for a striker. However, reinforcements in midfield are still desired and talks are ongoing with Real Sociedad for Mikel Merino.
Brighton, Newcastle and Aston Villa also opened their campaigns with victories.
All eyes will be on Manchester City’s clash with Chelsea today. Enzo Maresca’s side are expected to be one of the busiest sides in the final fortnights of the transfer window, with the Blues already closing in on a deal for Atletico Madrid star Joao Felix.

Leicester strike deal with Tottenham
Leicester City have struck a deal with Tottenham to sign Oliver Skipp, reports The Athletic.
The 23-year-old is set to undergo his medical with the Foxes today after it was ruled that he was surplus to requirements in north London.
Tottenham are set to face Leicester in their opening game of the season on Monday night.
Chelsea being forced to consider dropping asking price for outcast
Chelsea are reportedly set to lower their asking price for Carney Chukwuemeka.
The 20-year-old joined the Blues from Aston Villa in a deal reportedly worth £20million in 2022. The midfielder was offered a six-year contract with the club and a significant pay rise, which he accepted.
However, the deal offered to the playmaker is now causing Chelsea issues.
According to The Sun, the Blues are struggling to find suitors for Chukwuemeka due to his financial demands and they are therefore considering entertaining offers below the £40m release clause of the midfielder.
Enzo Maresca’s side are hoping that a lower valuation will encourage bidders to enter the fray.
Chelsea and Newcastle interested in Joe Gomez
Joe Gomez is reportedly weighing up his future at Liverpool, amid interest from elsewhere in the Premier League.
That is according to The Times, who report that the England international is keen to ‘explore his options’ before the transfer window closes, with Chelsea, Aston Villa and Newcastle all monitoring his situation closely.
The 27-year-old also has suitors elsewhere in Europe, though it is unclear as to whether Liverpool would facilitate his exit.

Liverpool eye defensive reinforcements
Liverpool are reportedly interested in bringing Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri to Anfield this summer.
The Reds are said to be keen to sign a new left-back to provide cover for Andy Robertson and ultimately succeed the Scottish international.
Ait-Nouri is among those who have been shortlisted as an option, reports David Lynch.
Liverpool are claimed to have already held several rounds of talks with Wolves to discuss the possibility of signing the 23-year-old. Chelsea and Manchester United have been linked with the fullback previously as well.
Chelsea ‘closing in’ on deal for Joao Felix
Chelsea are ‘closing in’ on a deal for Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix, reports Fabrizio Romano.
The talks are now said to be at a very advanced stage, with the Blues set to pay a fee in the region of £34million to £38m to acquire the services of the Portuguese forward, plus add-ons.
The signing of Felix is expected to push Conor Gallagher’s move to Atletico over the line.
Man Utd plot hijack for Liverpool target
Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
Liverpool are working on a deal to sign the Georgia international, with the shot-stopper expected to spend at least one season on loan at Bournemouth before he succeeds Alisson at Anfield.
The Mirror report that United are also interested in Mamardashvili though, and the 23-year-old is ‘open’ to a move to Old Trafford as well.
The goalkeeper has recently urged Valencia not to ‘price him out’ of a move to the Premier League this summer, with his £34million price tag becoming a sticking point in negotiations with Liverpool.
