Erik ten Hag’s side look set to play a huge clash on transfer deadline day
The blockbuster fixtures of Manchester United vs Liverpool and Arsenal vs Manchester City look set to clash with the end of the summer and January transfer deadline day. As focus remains on Euro 2024, the Premier League has released next year’s domestic fixtures.
Football fans always enjoy bookmarking the most significant fixtures when the lists get revealed. And while it’s not known for it’s action on the field, transfer deadline day is always a day fans look out for.
Fans are always glued to their televisions, radios and mobile phones to see if their club has brought in any last minute reinforcements. But in the summer and January transfer windows respectively this coming season, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City supporters will be doing just that while also watching their teams battle it out against each other.
A weekend of Premier League fixtures is currently scheduled for August 31, immediately after the final day of the transfer window. All 20 clubs in the top flight are scheduled to be in action, but United’s huge clash against Liverpool will be the biggest fixture of the weekend.
On February 1,in the dying days of the winter transfer window, which closes on February 3, Arsenal will host City. While the market will not officially be closed, both teams could be handed an unwelcome distraction to the action.
It’s possible that other deals may still be in the process of being completed while Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola’s side battle it out at the Emirates Stadium. Many fans may find themselves scratching their heads with the fixtures being scheduled so closely to the business end of the transfer window.
Guardiola and Arteta will be battling it out less than 24 hours after the transfer window closes
Arsenal and City fans will be particularly perturbed, considering they will likely be battling for the title. For the last two campaigns, Arteta’s Gunners have pushed Guardiola’s winning machine all the way.
They took City to the final day of the Premier League campaign, scoring more goals than the iconic Invincibles’ team and only recording one point less than Arsene Wenger’s legendary side. Nevertheless, they still ended the season without a trophy to celebrate.
Meanwhile, United’s Deadline Day clash against Liverpool in the summer will also be intriguing. Arne Slot will only be three games into his reign at Liverpool, while Ten Hag will be hoping his United side will be significantly better than the one that limped to an eight placed finish last season.
Arne Slot will have a chaotic start to the season
Ten Hag’s future at the club was uncertain in the tail end of the recent campaign. However, a surprise FA Cup Final victory over Manchester City and two impressive Premier League victories against Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion have convinced United minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe to stick with the Dutchman.
Despite his league form being undoubtedly patchy last season, Ten Hag still boasts two trophies in two seasons at Old Trafford. His United side could be busy on transfer deadline day as they have already been linked with some huge targets.
Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite is understood to be in their sights as has the likes of Crystal Palace duo Marc Guehi and Michael Olise.
