Tottenham Loanee Could Sign Permanently For Manchester United
According to a report from Manchester Evening News, if Sergio Reguilon continues to impress during his loan tenure, there is a possibility that he could secure a permanent move to Manchester United from Tottenham Hotspur in the upcoming January transfer window.
Reguilon’s Loan Spell For Manchester United So Far
Reguilon is having a decent loan spell at Old Trafford after producing some influential displays at the back of United’s defence. He hasn’t been productive in the final third but remains strong on the defensive end making three appearances for the Red Devils.
He has been a solid presence on the left side of Erik ten Hag’s defensive department after averaging 1.5 tackles, 1.5 clearances, 1.0 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per game in the Premier League. He has also been efficient with his ball distribution after completing 81.7% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).
Will Ten Hag Offer Him A Permanent Deal At The End Of This Season?
In the summer of 2023, Sergio Reguilon joined Manchester United on a season-long loan from Tottenham, and he has already left a positive impression at Old Trafford. The prospect of a permanent move to United in the upcoming January transfer window or at the season’s conclusion could be on the horizon if Reguilon continues to perform well. However, several factors will come into play before a decision is made.
Firstly, Ten Hag will closely monitor Reguilon’s performances throughout the season. Consistent form would make a compelling case for a permanent deal, but any dips in performance may influence Ten Hag’s decision.
Secondly, Ten Hag must weigh his options at the left-back position. Luke Shaw holds the role of the primary left-back at United, but he has faced injury challenges in recent seasons. Tyrell Malacia is another option but remains a young and developing player.
Should Ten Hag have confidence in Reguilon’s ability to provide cover for Shaw, a permanent deal could be in the cards. However, if there are doubts about Reguilon, Ten Hag might explore alternative options in the transfer market.
