Steven Gerrard humorously told Gary Neville to “f*** off” when he spotted the Manchester United legend during a video call with former Liverpool team-mate Jamie Carragher.
The exchange occurred on Neville’s show, The Overlap on Tour, as Carragher called Gerrard while visiting Istanbul’s Olympic Stadium – the iconic site of their famous victory over AC Milan in the 2005 Champions League final.
Carragher asked Gerrard, who is currently managing Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, if he recognised the location, to which Gerrard responded: “Oh yeah.”
When Carragher revealed he was standing next to Neville and Roy Keane, Gerrard quipped: “Oh for f***’s sake. Roy, you can stay where you are, Gary you can f*** off,” leaving Neville in fits of laughter.
The 44-year-old reflected on the tense penalty shootout in the final when Shevchenko’s miss meant Gerrard was spared from taking his spot kick, a moment for which the iconic midfielder expressed relief.
The two Liverpool legends then reminisced about their memorable final, where Gerrard led an incredible comeback from 3-0 down to win 3-2 on penalties.
Gerrard revealed that he had taken Andriy Shevchenko’s shirt after the game and teased Carragher by claiming he had “definitely” sold his Paolo Maldini jersey. Carragher retorted, joking that there was “no chance of you needing sell anything being over there” in Saudi Arabia.
Earning a reported salary of around £15million-a-year with Al-Ettifaq, Steven Gerrard couldn’t help but chuckle as he shared, “No I’m alright at the moment. The bills are alright at the moment.”

But back to the present day, Gerrard faced boos from his own fans following Al-Ettifaq’s loss to Al-Qadisiyah in the Saudi Pro League. A disgruntled section of supporters even chanted “get out”, leaving Gerrard in turbulent waters after only managing two victories out of six matches.
Al-Ettifaq finds themselves in a precarious 11th place standing, slumping from their previous sixth-place finish last season. Acknowledging the pressure that comes with his managerial position, Gerrard accepted full liability for the disheartening loss, branding it an “embarrassing situation”.
Despite the negative waves, Al-Ettifaq did find some solace after triumphing over Al Qadsia in the Gulf Club Champions League, securing a narrow 1-0 victory.
