Sky Sports reporter gives update on Neymar to Manchester United

Manchester United are not actively said to be pursuing a move for Brazilian forward Neymar.

News broke last night via L’Equipe that Manchester United were in talks for Paris Saint-Germain attacker Neymar.

The French newspaper even went as far as to claim that Casemiro had put in a favourable word to his Brazil international teammate over a move to Old Trafford.

Don’t expect a move to be moving forward, however, with United’s ‘interest’ denied.

Neymar ‘not a target’

Manchester United are not reported to be actively pushing a chase for Neymar.

Instead, via Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol, it was Manchester United who were approached about a move.

He said: “Manchester United have been approached by intermediaries about signing Neymar from PSG. They are one of a number of clubs who have been contacted about his potential availability. While a deal might make sense from a commercial point of view, he is not currently a United target.”

This was the situation we had expected, with PSG keen to shift Neymar’s excessive salary off the books.

With Ed Woodward long gone from Old Trafford, we are confident signing Neymar is not on United’s agenda, as much as Casemiro might support it.

Neymar, 31, comes with an excessive salary, and the only way a move might work is if he were made available on loan.

And even then, Neymar might simply be not worth the hassle, nor fit in with the kind of team Erik ten Hag is attempting to build long-term. Let’s hope the eras of ‘quick fixes’ are over.
