Sevilla sports chief Monchi says they can be proud to have reached the Europa League semifinals.
Sevilla meet Juventus in the first-leg of their semifinal tonight.
Monchi said, “A short time ago we didn’t imagine being here. But we cannot forget the historical trajectory of Sevilla in this century. The LaLiga results this year have covered up a lot of the good we’ve done. In the 20th century, the club had played 30 games in Europe and in the 21st we have played more than 200 games.
“Every time we have gone to the quarterfinals we have won the Europa League title and in the last 10 years we have always gone past the eighth. The bad performance of the team in the League made us doubt the project but, unexpectedly, life gives you opportunities and it gives them to a team that deserves it.
“It is early to think about the final. The journey up to here has been difficult: PSV, Fenerbahçe, Manchester United and now Juve are teams with a long tradition. The team has been in all the qualifiers superior in the total calculation. Let’s see what happens now. What we have done has merit.”
