Ruben Amorim is determined not to ruin his relationship with Sporting
Ruben Amorim has sealed a gentleman’s agreement that ensures Manchester United will not swoop for Sporting Lisbon’s top talents this winter, according to The Mirror.
Despite this pact, it could prevent United from securing Viktor Gyokeres next summer, as other clubs may leap at the chance to snatch the prolific forward in January.
Reflecting after Sporting’s remarkable 4-1 Champions League victory over Manchester City, Amorim stated: “Viktor has to stay until the end of the season and then his life will probably go somewhere else.”
Paris Saint-Germain, under the keen eye of football advisor Luis Campos, are keen to lure Gyokeres to the Parc des Princes, with Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Bayern Munich also keeping tabs.
Even though Gyokeres himself finds his £85million release clause excessive, he has reportedly been informed by Sporting that he can leave next summer for less if he completes the season in Lisbon.
At the same time, United have their sights set on Sporting’s 17-year-old prodigy Geovany Quenda, having scouted the winger before they committed to hiring Amorim. But similar to the situation with Gyokeres, United could prove powerless if other suitors table a sufficient bid in the January window.
Amorim is determined to maintain his special connection with Sporting, as he gears up for his mid-season exit from the club.
A number of Sporting players, including Gyokeres, have pledged their loyalty to the club following the confirmation of Amorim’s imminent exit.
The club’s management are resolute in maintaining the squad’s unity for the remainder of the season, before potentially facing an end-of-season clearance.
