Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has taken a subtle dig at rivals Manchester City in a move which will only endear him even more to the club’s fanbase.

He is only four games and a month into his reign at Old Trafford, but Amorim appears to already understand the importance of the club’s rivalries.

In a Q&A session with football fans, one supporter asked the Portuguese if he managed to get his hands on Oasis tickets ahead of their world tour next year.

Oasis members Liam and Noel Gallagher are both die-hard City fans and Noel is often spotted in the stands at the Etihad for home matches.

Noel even bizarrely joined TNT Sports’ coverage of a Champions League fixture for Amorim’s final game in charge of Sporting Lisbon against City – and the United boss had the last laugh with a memorable 4-1 victory at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Perhaps remembering that, Amorim – with a chuckle – said to Sky Sports: “With media and games, I don’t [even] have time to shower! I just shower, eat, Manchester United and media. That’s all.”

The presenter then asked again to confirm that Amorim wouldn’t be watching Oasis in concert – and he didn’t miss the opportunity to take a swipe at Manchester City.

“So no Oasis tickets?” said the presenter, to which Amorim replied with a smile: “No, no, no. You know why.”

Amorim’s subtle acknowledgement that attending an Oasis concert would be a bad look for him was enough to prove he shares the fans’ distaste.

Additionally, the 39-year-old’s comments also referenced how much time he is spending working on improving his team.

The ex-Sporting boss has overseen two victories from his four games in charge, following a frustrating 1-1 draw with Ipswich with a victory over Bodo/Glimt and 4-0 thrashing of Everton at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils’ 2-0 defeat to Arsenal highlighted there is still much work to do on the training ground, although the fact both goals conceded were from set pieces – where the Gunners are comfortably the best in Europe.

Amorim has not shied away from the task of improving his side after taking over when his team were 12th in the table, even though a win against Nottingham Forest today could take them to sixth place.

“We are a massive club but we are not a massive team. We know it, so there is no problem to say it,” he said. “We’re not one of the best teams in the league. We have to say and think that clearly.

“But [in] our past, our club is maybe the best one in the league. So here we have a problem.

“We have to focus on the little details, then we will improve as a team.”
