Ruben Amorim is set to join Man Utd.
Ruben Amorim is set to become the latest propitious coach to take the reins at Manchester United, which has become something of an impossible job since Sir Alex Ferguson’s sovereignty. The Sporting boss will understand the risks that come with inheriting the Old Trafford hot seat, but he is entering the task with the perfect mentality.
Amorim is expected to replace Erik ten Hag as United’s next permanent manager around November 11 after agreeing to remain in Lisbon until the international break.
Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue his stint as interim manager against Chelsea on Sunday and for PAOK and Leicester City’s visits next week.
Amorim arrives at United among the world’s most sought-after coaches, having established a powerful reputation in one of Europe’s top leagues.
Sound familiar? A similar buzz surrounded Erik ten Hag’s switch from Ajax. The Dutchman won two domestic cups in as many years but lacked the credentials to achieve more.
After his sacking on Monday morning, Ten Hag returned to the Netherlands with severely damaged stocks compared to when he landed in Manchester for the first time.
Amorim is choosing to embrace the jeopardy of becoming United manager, insisting coaches need to prove themselves with big challenges even if they’re doing well.
“I think all coaches need that. I think that in everyone’s life, and in yours [journalists] too,” the 39-year-old told reporters yesterday.
Ruben Amorim to Man Utd is a risk.
“There are times when we are doing very well in life, but we are missing something, or we want something or to prove something.
“And we have to take a step forward in things that destabilise us, that we don’t know if it will work or not if we are or are not ruining what is good about us.
“But I think everyone feels that. You and coaches go through the same thing in your life.”
There hasn’t yet been an official announcement of Amorim’s impending move to Old Trafford. He is fully focused on tonight’s Primeira Liga clash against Estrela Amadora.
But Amorim has confirmed that his future will become clear after full-time at the Jose Alvalade Stadium.
In the same press conference, he said: “It’s a negotiation between two clubs, it’s never easy. Even with the clauses, it’s never easy; they have to talk, and we will have clarification after the game.
“It will be very clear. So it’s one more day after the game tomorrow, we will have a decision made.
“After the game, we’ll have all these clarifications. Then, the decision will be known. Soon the soap opera will end.”
