Ruben Amorim has spoken out after Marcus Rashford revealed he was ready for a new challenge
Ruben Amorim has shared his stance on Marcus Rashford’s decision to publicly discuss his future, claiming that he himself would have spoken to the manager first.
The Manchester United boss is currently working hard to mend their strained relationship after Rashford announced he is “ready for a new challenge”.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow night’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham, Amorim said: “If this was me probably I would speak with the manager, but, guys, let’s focus on Tottenham.”
Despite the latest development, Amorim insists both he and United want Rashford to stay put, even though it is understood that the club would be open to selling him in the upcoming January transfer window.
“Nothing has changed, we believe in Marcus,” the Portuguese boss said ahead of the clash with Tottenham.
“Marcus is a player of Manchester United so there’s no change. This kind of club needs big talent and he’s a big talent, so he just needs to perform at the highest level and that’s my focus. I just want to help Marcus.”
Amorim also suggested that Rashford could regain his place in the team if he performs well in training, and emphasised that United are a stronger team with him.
“What I want is to take the best stuff of Marcus Rashford as the player so I don’t talk about the future, I just talk about the present,” he explained.
“We’re better with Marcus Rashford, that’s simple, and we’ll try different things to push Marcus to the best levels he showed in the past.”
