Roy Keane had a remarkable career with Manchester United during their golden era. The midfielder’s football journey began at Cobh Ramblers in 1989, where he played 23 games before attracting the attention of Nottingham Forest in the early 90s.

After three years under Brian Clough in the midlands, he made his debut for Manchester United in ’93. Despite only having a Full Members’ Cup to his name when he arrived at Old Trafford, Keane led the Red Devils to seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups and Community Shields each, an Intercontinental Cup, and a UEFA Champions League.

He was also named in the PFA Team of the Year five times and in the association’s Team of the Century. After creating numerous fond memories at Manchester United, Keane ended his playing career at Celtic in the 2005/06 season, making just ten appearances for the Scottish giants.

Unlike many footballers who choose either coaching or punditry after retirement, Keane decided to pursue both. His first managerial role was with Sunderland AFC, a struggling team that he managed to lift from the bottom of the table to league champions in the 2007/08 season, earning them promotion.

However, the celebrations were short-lived as Keane stepped down in December 2008, replaced by Ricky Sbragia. The Black Cats managed to dodge relegation, albeit by a whisker, finishing in 16th place when the season concluded. Keane subsequently took charge of Ipswich Town in 2009, before serving as assistant manager for the Republic of Ireland under Martin O’Neill from 2013 to 2018.

Known for his fiery persona on the field, Keane also ventured into punditry, becoming ITV’s lead football analyst for the 2011/12 season alongside Adrian Chiles and Gareth Southgate. He has continued his punditry role with the broadcaster over the years and is currently part of ITV’s Euro 2024 coverage team, which includes Gary Neville and Ian Wright.
