Links between Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen player Jonathan Tah have been ongoing for months now and have shown no sign of slowing down. Instead, it seems that the first big milestone has been reached.
Florian Plettenberg reports, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, that Bayern have reached a “total agreement” with Jonathan Tah just in time before the 2024 EUROs kick off. With the 28-year-old agreeing to a contract until 2029. there is seemingly only one obstacle between the transfer of Jonathan Tah to Bayern Munich and that is Bayer Leverkusen.
Leverkusen have been informed that “Jonathan Tah is definitely the top target for the defense for Bayern” and brace themselves for negotiations with the Bavarians. With an agreement from Tah and his contract with Leverkusen expiring in 2025, it seems that Bayern have all the leverage.
But in case the move does not work despite the odds, Bayern has backup plan: Chelsea FC’s Levi Colwill. The left-footed center back has yet to fully establish himself at the Londoners amid serious competition while the new American ownership at Chelsea have developed a habit of selling academy graduates such as Colwill for pure profit. In fact, Plettenberg reports that “it’s also possible that Colwill could join in addition [to Tah].” With Colwill signed to Chelsea until 2029, however, a move may be very expensive.
Getting Colwill could prove to be very difficult per Fabrizio Romano:
Understand Chelsea position on Levi Colwill remains same as last summer: no plans to sell him.
Despite interest from several top clubs,
Colwill is again considered important part of #CFC project and a key player for their future.↪️ Bayern keep working on Jonathan Tah. pic.twitter.com/I0k1t2yDGa
