Real Madrid player equals Cristiano Ronaldo’s record
Carlo Ancelotti addresses rumours of rift with Real Madrid player by Sourav Mahanty
A lot has been made about Real Madrid’s performances since their loss to Atletico Madrid away at the Metropolitano Stadium. But despite all the criticism, Carlo Ancelotti’s side found their way back to the top of the La Liga table with a 3-0 win over Girona at the weekend. Barcelona sit second, a point behind.
Jude Bellingham’s fairytale start to his debut season at Real Madrid shows no sign of stopping as he scored the third goal in the club’s 3-0 win against Girona. The 20-year-old midfielder also provided a brilliant assist for Joselu to open the scoring.
Bellingham is currently the top scorer in La Liga with 6 goals. He is ahead of top-class strikers like Robert Lewandowski and Alvaro Morata, as well as former Real Madrid player Takefusa Kubo, with all three having scored 5 goals each till now this season.
The Englishman has scored 7 goals in all competitions, out of which, six have come in La Liga. This tally matches one of Cristiano Ronaldo’s records from 14 years back.
Real Madrid player equals Ronaldo’s record
Ronaldo had also scored 6 goals in his first 7 appearances in La Liga for Real Madrid. That is a record that Bellingham has now matched.
As reported by talkSPORT, no other Real Madrid player in the 21st century has managed to score six times in their first seven league appearances. Ruud van Nistelrooy scored four goals in that same span, with Brazilian icon Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema each managing three.
Bellingham achieving this feat as a midfielder speaks volumes about how quickly he has adapted to life in Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti prefers playing him in a more advanced and free role in his 4-4-2 diamond formation which has been beneficial for both the club and the player as Los Blancos sit atop the La Liga table, a point ahead of Barcelona.
