Rasmus Hojlund likes Man Utd’s latest signing.
Rasmus Hojlund appears to be looking forward to Matthijs de Ligt’s Manchester United arrival based on his reaction to the imminent transfer. De Ligt is set to complete a move to Old Trafford in the coming days after United reportedly agreed a £43million fee with Bayern Munich on Saturday.
The 24-year-old will arrive as part of a double deal alongside Noussair Mazraoui, who has also been the subject of an accepted bid worth £17m.
They are primed to become Erik ten Hag’s third and fourth summer signings after recruiting Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro for a combined £95m in July.
De Ligt joins Yoro as centre-back reinforcements to solve a major problem position for United throughout their dismal 2023/24 campaign.
The pair replace Raphael Varane, who left as a free agent at the end of last season, and Willy Kambwala following his £10m switch to Villarreal.
Hojlund is preparing for his second season as a United player after scoring a club-best 16 goals after sealing a dream £72m transfer last summer.
The 21-year-old striker is out of action for another month after suffering a hamstring injury during a pre-season friendly against Arsenal two weeks ago.
But he has been active on social media to show his excitement for United’s latest piece of transfer business.
Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui are Man Utd-bound.
Hojlund’s official account was among those to have liked Fabrizio Romano’s Instagram post confirming that De Ligt was set to sign a five-year deal in Manchester.
The Denmark international has, in fact, already publicly spoken about the prospect of De Ligt becoming his teammate this summer.
Following his nation’s Euro 2024 elimination against Germany in the last 16, Hojlund was asked for his thoughts on the Dutchman’s potential arrival.
He remained coy but offered praise, replying: “That has nothing to do with me. I can’t answer that question, but he’s a good defender.”
Rasmus Hojlund is excited for Matthijs de Ligt.
De Ligt was also asked about his future while he represented the Netherlands for their run to the semi-finals in Germany. The former Ajax and Juventus defender was similarly coy.
“I’ve already said this is not the time for me to think about it,” De Ligt responded to questions over his future.
“We’re playing at the Euros now, and that’s very important for me and the national team.
“That’s why I can’t say now what I think about this situation. But what I can say is that I’ve now played my second season at Bayern.”
