A one-time Liverpool transfer target, who the Reds reportedly had a £86million bid rejected for, has had his asking price slashed by over £70m.

Jurgen Klopp was said to have been a big fan of Juventus forward Federico Chiesa when the German coach was looking to bolster his attacking options in the summer of 2022.

Reports at the time claimed Liverpool had stumped up around £86m for the attacker, but Juventus quickly laughed off any interest from the Premier League side.

Liverpool turned attention elsewhere, with the six-time European champions instead breaking their record transfer fee for £85m man Darwin Nunez.

Cody Gakpo (£35m) soon followed in January of the same season, with Klopp and co. left to wonder what might’ve been had Juventus accepted their bid for Chiesa.

However, Klopp’s successor, Arne Slot could have the chance to find out, with Chiesa reportedly up for sale.

Reports from Italy claim a fee as little as £13m could tempt Juventus into a sale after it was decided earlier in the window that Chiesa wouldn’t be part of the club’s plans going forward.

The Italian attacker has just one year left on his deal with the Old Lady and has so far shown no signs of wanting to sign an extension.

As such, this summer could represent the final time for Juventus to cash in on the 26-year-old, given he’d be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a club outside of Italy from January onwards.

Premier League clubs’ interest has been piqued by Chiesa’s new-found transfer status, with Liverpool among those believed to be on red alert about the prospect of a bargain.

Chiesa isn’t the only Juventus star who could be departing the Allianz Stadium this summer, with up to eight first-team players said to have been told to find new clubs by new boss Thiago Motta.

Motta, who guided Bologna to Champions League qualification last season, is rumoured to have informed Wojciech Szczesny, Weston McKennie and Arthur Melo among others that their time in Turin has come to an end.

Elsewhere, Arkadiusz Milik, Mattia De Sciglio, Daniele Rugani, Filip Kostic and Hans Nicolussi-Caviglia are also named as likely exits, as per Fabrizio Romano.
