Pep Guardiola has only one year remaining on his Manchester City contract
Pep Guardiola reportedly plans to make a decision on his Manchester City future midway through the new Premier League season. The Spaniard has only one year remaining on his contract and has been expected to depart at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
Guardiola led City to their fourth Premier League title in a row last season and will hope to extend that run of consecutive league triumphs to five next term. However, his future beyond next summer remains in doubt.
According to the Guardian, Guardiola remains undecided on what he will do beyond next season. It is claimed that he will provide City with a decision between December and February, giving the club plenty of time to plan for a successor.
City will be desperate for Guardiola to remain at the Etihad Stadium. He has elevated them to the top of European club football, winning the Champions League in 2023.
The 53-year-old joined City in June 2016 and it was widely thought that he would only see out his initial three years. But Guardiola will enter his ninth calendar year at the Manchester club this season.
In total, City have won a staggering six Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups and the FIFA Club World Cup under Guardiola.
Back in May, Guardiola admitted that he was leaning towards leaving at the end of his contract. After lifting last season’s Premier League title, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich tactician told Sky Sports: “The reality is I’m closer to leaving than to staying.

“It’s eight years, will be nine. Right now my feeling is I want to stay next season. We talked with the club, we have time to talk next season because I have to see the players as well, (to see) if they follow me, they follow us, for many reasons. I will stay and during the season we will talk when calm.”
Later that day, he was asked in his press conference if he felt he had ‘completed’ English football. Guardiola nonchalantly shrugged his shoulders and responded: “I had that feeling last season. When we won in Istanbul (in the Champions League final) I said, ‘It’s over, what am I doing here? It’s over, there’s nothing left’.
“But I have a contract, I’m here and still enjoying. Some of the moments I’m a bit tired but some of the moments I love, and after I said ‘OK, we are here’.”
