Ex-Manchester United striker Louis Saha has expressed his desire to see the club’s former midfield maestro Paul Pogba make a spectacular return to Old Trafford. Saha firmly believes Pogba could secure himself another high-profile transfer when he makes his highly-anticipated return to football next year.

Now aged 31, Pogba is serving an 18-month ban from football following a doping violation sanctioned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The verdict has seen a reduction from what was initially a four-year suspension.

The Frenchman’s future at Juventus looks bleak, with the Serie A giants planning to terminate his contract due to a lack of space in Thiago Motta’s plans in Turin.

There has naturally been subsequent fervent speculation about Pogba’s next career move, considering his ban is set to conclude in March.

While an encore with United appears to be a long shot, Saha can’t hide his admiration and eagerness to witness Pogba once again donning the red of United, where his football journey started.

The ex-France international is unwavering in his belief that Pogba retains the skill required to perform at the highest tier of football, regardless of his destination.

“Paul Pogba can go wherever he wants. If he’s given the platform to show his talent again, people will be reminded of how special he is, Saha told Paddy Power.

“He can play in the Champions League; he can play for France and I’m a big fan of his. I’ve always been harsh on him because when you have that talent, you have a responsibility. He’s going to be super motivated when he comes back.”

During his second tenure at United, under the stewardship of Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick, Pogba often struggled to meet the lofty expectations set for him.

Saha has suggested that the frays of big-name players at United, including Cristiano Ronaldo, are due to underlying issues at the club rather than a lack of individual talent.

He expressed his dream to see Pogba return to M16, adding: “I would love to see him at Manchester United.

“Because when you look at their midfield, they have lost Scott McTominay which is a loss because he contributed to the team well.”

Saha elaborated on the club’s recent adversity, saying: “When you look at how things went with previous managers and try to understand what happened, you see that there were mistakes that have been made.

“And letting Pogba go was a sign that things are difficult to manage at Manchester United. It wasn’t just an Erik ten Hag problem; several very talented players struggled with the club’s transition.

“There were problems with Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and even Marcus Rashford in some way.

“All those things need to stop and hopefully their signings can perform the way they should be performing.”
