Nkunku – Mendy and Kepa all feature in Chelsea news now

Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news and gossip from icfootballnews that we think you guys may have missed –

Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly told the CHELSEA board that he wants to keep Kepa as his number one for next season.

Spain international Arrizabalaga has endured a turbulent spell at Stamford Bridge following his record-breaking £72m move from Athletic Bilbao in 2018 and has been in and out of the side.

He has been given a new lease of life at Stamford Bridge over the past 12 months – but that has not stopped all the speculation suggesting that he is a player that Chelsea are open to letting leave.

However – according to the Evening Standard., Kepa Arrizabalaga is set to retain his role as Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper as new boss Mauricio Pochettino wants the Spaniard to stay put at Stamford Bridge.

Kepa is a very good stopper that should be world class by now – but he is not and he keeps making mistakes that are costing the club vital points.

We agree with the rumours and the club need to cash in while they still can – and try to sign a more world class goalkeeper that will make a difference in tight games.

But if Pochettino wants to give him a chance in the side next season – then we are sure that it will happen as the board will want to keep the new manager happy.

There ate still some big names being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge – but if CHELSEA can save a bit of money by giving Kepa a real chance in the side – then it could be a very smart idea.

Nkunku message sent –

Bixente Lizarazu predicted Christopher Nkunku to be a great success at Chelsea.

Nkunku had been in the headlines alot before the January window – and there were some big clubs interested in a potential deal for the Frenchman – but it was Chelsea that won the race for the striker.

IcFootballnews understands a deal to bring Nkunku to Stamford Bridge this summer has been agreed, The former PSG forward will reportedly make the move to the Premier League for a fee worth £50million

The PSG academy graduate moved to Leipzig in 2019 and has recorded a highly impressive 70 goals and 56 assists in 172 games across all competitions, winning Bundesliga Player of the Season in 2022 and finishing.

And Speaking to Wettbasis,  The former Bayern Munich and French international said: “His development was rapid and spectacular. He has become a complete player, capable of being used in almost any position in attack.

“This versatility also makes him so strong and important. His freshness and self-confidence made him a great player in an environment like Leipzig, where he was able to flourish.

‘He took on more and more responsibility. Now he seems to be giving the impression that he’s ready for the next step.

“Certainly the competition is greater in the Blues than in Leipzig, but there too he has the potential and the prerequisites to become a permanent fixture very quickly.

‘His style of play with his speed, pace and technical qualities could create a lot of spectacle and enthusiasm in the Premier League…”

CHELSEA made sure that they were the club that signed Nkunku back in January – they will be hoping that he is worth the hassle.

He has proven himself to be a very good player over in the Bundesliga – but he will need to adapt to the Premier League quickly in order to be a success.

But we do hope that he is able to adapt to the Premier League

Mendy on the move –

CHELSEA goalkeeper Edouard Mendy could also be on the way out and is in talks with Al-Ahli.

Mauricio Pochettino has already decided that Kepa Arrizabalaga will be his No.1 goalkeeper next season, meaning Mendy will struggle for game time if he stays with the Blues.

There has been alot of clubs interested in the man – but it seems that a big money move to Al-Ahli is on the cards after he reportedly agreed personal terms over a move and the Blues accepted a fee for him.

But reporter Iomie Stanley has claimed that the Blues should keep hold of the stopper.

He says: ‘Edouard Mendy has been a key player for Chelsea ever since he joined the club in the summer of 2020. The Senegalese goalkeeper has been instrumental in the club’s success, playing a crucial role in their Champions League triumph and finishing fourth in the Premier League.

However, selling him would be a grave mistake for several reasons.

First, Mendy has formed a strong bond with the Chelsea defense. The goalkeeper is the last line of defense, and his role is crucial in organizing and communicating with the backline. Mendy has been exceptional in this regard, and his confidence and composure have helped the defenders in front of him to perform better.

Selling him would mean disrupting this crucial partnership, which would be a significant setback for Chelsea.

Secondly, Mendy’s potential replacement would cost a considerable amount of money. Goalkeepers are often the most expensive players in the transfer market, and finding a suitable replacement for Mendy would not be easy or cheap. It would be a risky move for Chelsea to let go of a proven goalkeeper and spend a significant amount of money on an untested option.

In conclusion, Chelsea should not sell Edouard Mendy. The Senegalese goalkeeper has been a vital player for the club over the past few seasons, playing a crucial role in their success.

He has formed a strong bond with the defense, and his potential replacement would be costly. Furthermore, selling him would send the wrong message to their rivals and could potentially weaken their squad.

Therefore, CHELSEA should do everything in their power to keep Mendy at the club and build upon their success with him in the team.’
