Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has criticised the training methods used by former manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino was relieved of his duties after less than 12 months in charge at the end of last season, after the Argentine led the Blues to sixth place in the Premier League.

It was a turbulent campaign at Stamford Bridge, featuring plenty of change.

As well as Pochettino arriving as the new manager in July 2023, Caicedo was one of 12 summer signings last year.

Caicedo arrived at Chelsea in a British-record deal worth £115 million following two and a half years as a Brighton player.

He worked under Graham Potter and Roberto De Zerbi during his Seagulls career and claimed that their approach suited him better than Pochettino’s.

Caicedo told Radio La Red: ‘At Brighton, it was all tactical, just with the ball; tactical, tactical, tactical. And at Chelsea, it was run, run, run and it was very difficult for me.

‘With Chelsea, I always ran a bit more and with Brighton we almost always had the ball, with Chelsea it was a different football and we had to run more.’

Caicedo, 22, made 48 appearances for Chelsea last season, having featured in 43 Brighton games during the previous campaign.

He made 91 tackles in the Premier League last season – more than any of his team-mates – while he was one of only three Chelsea players to play more than 2,000 passes.

Ecuador had earlier finished second in Group B, after losing to Venezuela, beating Jamaica and drawing with Mexico.
