Mo Salah’s contract is set to expire next summer
Former Manchester United forward Louis Saha has expressed surprise that Mohamed Salah is still at Liverpool, hinting at a potential departure. Salah is now in his eighth season with the Reds after signing from Roma in 2017, and boasts an impressive record of 212 goals and 90 assists in 350 Premier League appearances.
His contributions have been instrumental in securing numerous titles for Liverpool, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and Community Shield. In 2022, Salah penned a new three-year deal, making him the highest-paid player in Liverpool’s history with a weekly wage of £350,000 – and securing his future at Anfield until 2025.
However, there has been no further progress on extending Salah’s contract, despite interest from Saudi clubs over the past year. With his current Liverpool contract set to expire next summer, the 32-year-old will be eligible to sign a pre-contract with another club in January.
Ex-Premier League star Saha has expressed his surprise at Salah’s continued tenure at Liverpool, suggesting that if the forward wishes to leave, he will – and also commented on the star’s attitude. Speaking to Paddy Power, the 46-year-old said: “I’m a bit surprised that Mo Salah is still at Liverpool – I don’t know what his wish is.
“He’s done tremendously well for the club, and he’s done his best every time and will always get around 20 goals a season and get you close to finals and trophies. At some point, those players will want to try new things and we’ve seen Salah’s attitude towards the club.
”It seems that it’s not always aligned between Salah and the club or the manager but he’s still there and playing with a smile on his face. He’s very motivated with a lot of emotion and that’s what we want to see in the Premier League.”
Salah is yet to sign a contract extension – and could sign for someone else in January
Saha went on to say that he hopes the Egyptian remains at Liverpool if that is his desire – but fans should enjoy him while they can. He added: “I want him to stay there and keep that competition with the clubs at the top. Salah will be up there with Erling Haaland, but while he’s here, we should enjoy it.”
“I’m sure his options will be open, if he wants to leave, he’ll leave and if he wants to stay Liverpool will be happy to keep him.”
