Liverpool ace Mo Salah is reportedly on the verge of putting pen to paper on a new two-year deal, quashing any uncertainty over his future at Anfield. A compromise has been reached between Fenway Sports Group, the club’s owners, and the 32-year-old Egyptian superstar after months of intense negotiations.

Initially, the club was only willing to offer a one-year extension once his current contract expires next summer, while Salah’s agent Rammy Abbas insisted on a three-year deal. Amidst the deadlock, Salah hinted that this could be his final season with the Reds, causing concern among fans who displayed banners such as ‘He Fires a Bow Now Give Mo His Dough’.

The issue was never about money – Salah already tops Liverpool’s wage bill with over £400,000 per week – but rather the duration of the contract. FSG typically hesitates to offer long-term contracts to players over 30, which is why Virgil van Dijk, 33, remains unsigned, his current contract set to expire next summer like Salah’s.

However, with Salah continuing to dominate the Premier League – he recently broke Wayne Rooney’s record by scoring and assisting in 37 separate games – FSG have finally decided to join the party at Anfield.

According to the Mirror, barring any unforeseen circumstances, Salah is set to sign a lucrative two-year contract extension, much to the delight of manager Arne Slot. The Dutchman quickly recognised the value of his inherited star player.

This move will be a disappointment for the Saudi Arabian Pro League, who had hoped to add the Egyptian international to their roster of big names. Last summer, Liverpool turned down a £150 million bid from Al-Ittihad.

By agreeing to a new contract with Liverpool, Salah has rejected the opportunity to name his price and play in the Middle East once he became a free agent. Instead, he has committed to pursuing more silverware on Merseyside, much to the joy of his devoted Liverpool fans.
