Man Utd sta Mason Mount has spoken out after suffering another injury.
Manchester United star Mason Mount has released a statement explaining his absence from their Premier League clash against Liverpool on Sunday.
The 25-year-old has started both of the Red Devils’ matches this season under Erik ten Hag but will be set for a short spell on the sidelines.
Mount was substituted at half-time of United’s 2-1 Premier League defeat against Brighton and it now appears that was a forced substitution, rather than tactical, from Ten Hag.
Mount has struggled with injury problems since his £60million move from Chelsea and the England international revealed he has sustained a minor issue that will keep him out until after the international period.
Taking to social media, Mount revealed he had undergone medical asseessment on his muscle injury and was left ‘frustrated’ to find he will be ruled out of their upcoming matches.
“I’ve had it checked and it looks like I’ll be out for a few games,” Mount wrote, posting via his Instagram account. “Leading up to and during pre-season, I worked hard to get my fitness back to where it needs to be and I felt re-energised, sharp and ready.
Mason Mount said he will be out for a ‘few games’
“I wanted you to hear it directly from me how frustrated I am. I will do everything possible to be back in the best shape and help the team.
Mount moved to Old Trafford in July 2023 after a protracted move from his boyhood club Chelsea. But he struggled to impress in his first season in Manchester, in addition to being dogged by injury problems.
He made just 21 appearances in all competitions – many of which were from the bench – and scored his only goal of the campaign in the 3-3 draw with Liverpool last season.
Erik ten Hag will now need to reshuffle his starting XI against Liverpool
His absence comes at an inconvenient time for Ten Hag, who is already without striker Rasmus Hojlund and will now need to turn to his bench.
Joshua Zirkzee could come into the team, allowing Bruno Fernandes to slot back into the No. 10 role, while Antony is another option after his recent spell out of the side.
Ten Hag will be hoping to bed in expected new signing Manuel Ugarte by taking Mount’s place, although the Uruguayan will not be available in time to face Liverpool unless he completes his move before Friday.
