Mason Mount breaks silence on Man Utd move with Chelsea destined to lose homegrown talent

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount refused to rule out a transfer to Manchester United when interviewed at the Formula One Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday.

The England international is believed to be ‘close’ to finalising a switch to Old Trafford. His contract is set to expire in 2024, with a departure looking increasingly likely.

Now, his recent interview will have done nothing to end the fears of Chelsea supporters, who would no doubt be disappointed to see Mount join Man Utd.

The 24-year-old has been at Chelsea for his entire career, except for two loan spells at Vitesse and Derby County. Since breaking into the first team, Mount has made 195 appearances, scoring 33 goals and making 37 assists.

However, it now seems that the midfielder is ready for a fresh challenge elsewhere. Indeed, as previously reported by TEAMtalk, Man Utd are ‘increasingly confident of signing Mount.’

Although, the will have to pay Chelsea approximately £55m for his services. So, the Red Devils will have to put their money where their mouth is to get a deal over the line.

Mount doesn’t rule out Man Utd switch

Now, in a very brief interview with Sky Sports at the Spanish Grand Prix, Mount refused to rule out a summer switch to Old Trafford.

When asked: ‘Are you going to join Man Utd?’, he responded: “Haha. I’m just here to enjoy this race today. Amazing day. Can’t wait to watch it.”

It’s no secret that Ten Hag has been on the lookout for midfield recruits.

The manager has turned down the chance to sign Marcel Sabitzer permanently, while Fred and Scott McTominay are both expected to leave the club ahead of next season.

As a result, Man Utd are tipped to bring in more than one new central midfielder. For instance, Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat is one potential option, along with Everton’s Amadou Onana.

But, Mount is widely considered to be Mount’s top choice, with the player seemingly keen on joining the Red Devils.

Also, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is tipped to offload several players this summer, as he looks to trim his oversized squad.

Indeed, everything seems to be pointing towards Mount signing for Man Utd. With personal terms close to being agreed, the only thing left to sort out is the transfer fee.

As mentioned, Man Utd believe they can get a deal done for £55m. So, it will be interesting to see if they make a concrete offer in the next few days.
