Man Utd and Liverpool come together to tackle tragedy chanting
Mason Greenwood has reportedly derailed Manchester United’s master plan to land one of their priority summer transfer targets by rejecting the chance to join Juventus. Greenwood is set to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season permanently, and United were said to be keen to use him to sweeten a swap deal.
The 22-year-old has resumed his career at Getafe after joining on a season-long loan on deadline day last summer.
He has scored eight goals and provided a further five assists in 27 appearances for the La Liga club, reportedly attracting heavyweight interest across Spain.
Greenwood has displayed signs of the quality that made him one of Europe’s most promising young talents while breaking through at United.
And his suitors are claimed to extend throughout the continent, including in Turin. However, a switch to Juventus doesn’t appear to be on the cards.
According to the Mirror, Greenwood has rejected a move to the Allianz Stadium, ending United’s hopes of a smart deal that included Juventus defender Gleison Bremer.
The Red Devils hoped that Juve would accept Greenwood as a sweetener, allowing Bremer to bolster Erik ten Hag’s centre-back options.
Man Utd wanted to use Mason Greenwood in a swap deal.
However, the £40million-rated attacker is claimed to have made it clear that he wants his future to lie in Spain amid interest from Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
United have identified Bremer, valued at £51m, among their top defensive targets ahead of expected investment in the department this summer.
But the report adds that Sir Jim Ratcliffe faces competition from Chelsea, who view the 27-year-old as a potential replacement for his Brazilian compatriot, Thiago Silva.
Now 39, Silva’s contract at Stamford Bridge is up in the summer, and even if he remains in west London, he isn’t expected to play a prominent role next season.

United could sign two centre-backs ahead of Ratcliffe’s first full campaign in charge of the club’s football operations, with a handful of current players’ statuses uncertain.
Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans will be out of contract in June, and there have been no suggestions that either of them are in active negotiations to sign extensions at Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof will both be in their thirties at the start of next season and are entering the final year of their current deals. Both will likely be in the shop window.
It potentially leaves Lisandro Martinez needing a partner and left-sided competition. Bremer represents an attractive option for the former.
