Serie A giant Lazio have reportedly opened talks with Manchester United over a potential summer move for Mason Greenwood.

Greenwood is expected to be moved on this summer, with Lazio just one of several clubs interested, as per The Daily Mail.

The Englishman scored 10 goals and registered six assists during a loan spell for Getafe last season.

But it’s Lazio who are the first team to have formalised their interest with the Red Devils.

It’s claimed the Italian side have held long-standing interest in the forward, with Lazio having contemplated a loan move last summer.

Lazio are said to be progressing on a deal which would see Greenwood complete a £30million move to the Stadio Olimpico.

But the Rome-based outfit aren’t the only team eyeing up a Greenwood grab, with Serie A rivals Juventus and Napoli also exploring a deal.

While clubs in Germany, Spain and Portugal are too sniffing around the attacker.

Lazio are pitching themselves as the best destination for Greenwood, as he looks to rebuild his career following attempted rape and assault allegations in January 2022. Charges of attempted rape and assault were dropped in February 2023.

Greenwood is under contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2025, but the three-time European champions hold an option to extend that by one year.

However, it’s expected Greenwood’s last game for United has already come and gone, with the Premier League side opting for a permanent sale.

Resolving Greenwood’s future was one of the first tasks on Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s agenda when he and his INEOS group arrived at Old Trafford earlier this year.

Speaking about the Manchester-born footballer in February 2024, he said: “We will make a decision, correct. All I can do is talk about the principle of how we will approach decisions like that. Is he the right type of footballer, are we happy with if is he’s a good person or not?

“He’s a Manchester United footballer, so we are in charge of football. So the answer is ‘Yeah, we have to make decisions. It’s quite clear we have to make a decision. There is no decision that’s been made.

“He’s on loan obviously, but he’s not the only one. We’ve got one or two footballers that we have to deal with and we have to make a decision on so we will do that. The process will be: understand the facts not the hype.

“Then try and come to fair decision on the basis of values, which is basically is he a good guy or not? Could he play sincerely for Manchester United well, would we be comfortable with it and would the fans be comfortable with it?”
