Martin Brundle tried to interview Kylian Mbappe ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix
Martin Brundle told a security guard that he is ‘in charge here’ as he battled to interview PSG forward Kylian Mbappe ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix.
After approaching the 2018 World Cup winner on during his grid walk segment for Sky Sports F1, Brundle was separated by a security guard who attempted to brush off his attempts to interview his client.
Mbappe didn’t push back himself, and Brundle managed to sneak his way towards the Frenchman after telling the security guard: “It’s alright mate, I’m in charge around here.”
Mbappe initially seemed more interested in waving to the Monegasque crowd, but Brundle persisted, adding: “I think he’s happy to talk,” before pushing the microphone towards the 25-year-old.
In response, Mbappe replied: “I’m just here for the race,” but Brundle pressed on. “I think you’re fast enough to beat these cars down to the first corner.”

This comment provoked a laugh from the PSG man, who replied: “No, no, I’m not faster than the cars! I just want to be here like a fan and to enjoy the moment.”
Mbappe’s response was enough to satisfy Brundle, who hit back: “Well I’ll let you get on and enjoy the moment. Thanks for talking to us and… your dear friend there.”

This wasn’t the end of Brundle’s pre-race antics though. The legendary broadcaster squeezed his way into an ongoing Viaplay interview with Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk, and the Dutchman was less than impressed.
Elsewhere, Brundle had conversations with Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell, musical star Joe Jonas and Furiosa star Anya Taylor-Joy, while familiar faces will.i.am and Michael Douglas were also back on the grid.
