Marcus Rashford has been recommended a surprise switch to Chelsea this summer after his disastrous season hit a new low this afternoon. Gareth Southgate has excluded the Manchester United forward from his provisional 33-man England squad for this summer’s Euro 2024 in Germany.

Rashford has endured a miserable campaign at Old Trafford, contributing to a largely unsuccessful second year of Erik ten Hag’s reign.

He penned a new long-term contract last summer worth around £300,000 per week as a reward for a career-best 2022/23 season in which he netted 30 times.

But the 26-year-old has managed just four goals and five assists in 45 appearances this term, costing him his place in the England set-up.

Speculation about Rashford’s future has been rife ahead of an expected summer clear-out at United in the first transfer window of INEOS’ rule over football operations.

And William Gallas believes Stamford Bridge could be the right destination for Rashford to rediscover his best form.

“There will always be quality players who are interested in signing for Chelsea, but we have to ask if Rashford would want to leave Man United,” Gallas told Genting Casino.

“Nobody knows the reason. Maybe he has a problem with Erik ten Hag. If he leaves, then Rashford could stay.

“A player like Rashford, we want to see the exciting young player who broke through on fire, running everywhere and scoring beautiful goals.

“He had a lot of commitment then as well, now he is not the same player. Maybe injuries have been a problem and another club for a fresh start could be the right option and Chelsea would provide this for him.”

Rashford is unlikely to leave United, but the club will listen to offers for the vast majority of senior players in a ruthless reshaping of Ten Hag’s underperforming squad.

And after missing out on a place at Euro 2024, the Red Devils’ No. 10 is also at serious risk of being snubbed in Saturday’s FA Cup final against Manchester City.

United travel to Wembley knowing that a shock victory over their bitter rivals would seal a second piece of major silverware in as many years under Ten Hag.

It would also secure Europa League qualification after the M16 giants missed out on European football altogether with a record-low eighth-place Premier League finish.

But Rashford hasn’t started either of the two games since returning from injury, with Alejandro Garnacho, Amad Diallo, and Rasmus Hojlund preferred.
