Marcus Rashford has struggled for form in the last 18 months
Andy Cole has insisted that Marcus Rashford must continue finding the back of the net for the remainder of the season to get the Manchester United faithful firmly behind him again, despite his recent upturn in form.
Following Rashford’s crucial goals lately, including a brace in United’s 4-0 thumping of Everton last Sunday and another strike in the 1-1 draw at Ipswich, Cole highlighted the importance of consistency for the 27-year-old forward.
Yet, despite having scored seven times in all competitions this campaign, Rashford still has some distance to cover to equal his best-ever tally of 30 goals from two seasons ago.
Cole didn’t hold back in his Betfred column, emphasising the need for Rashford to keep up his scoring streak to win over the fans: “It’s only three games. We’ve got to be very honest because we’ve seen Marcus do this before and then for whatever reason, he’s gone back to how he was before.
“That’s my view on it. For Marcus to get the Manchester United fans back onside, he’s going to have to continue this form from now until the end of the season.”
The former United striker also pointed out Rashford’s performance hadn’t appeased the supporters just yet, saying: “He scored against Ipswich last week and it didn’t seem to make any difference with the fans.
“He’s just got to keep his consistency, keep his form up, keep scoring goals and keep playing well.
“I genuinely believe that this manager will put him under a lot of pressure to produce the goods and stay in the team.”
