Marcus Rashford’s Man Utd future isn’t set in stone yet
Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit is eager for the Gunners to snap up Marcus Rashford during this summer’s transfer window, with his Man Utd future being placed under further scrutiny following his England Euro 2024 snub.
Despite being one of the best players in world football during the 2022-23 season, lingering doubts about his future have begun arising at Old Trafford following a very disappointing season on the pitch, coupled with controversy off it.
And Petit, who won the Premier League and FA Cup double with Arsenal in the 1997/98 season under Arsene Wenger, sees the Gunners as the ideal landing spot where he can rediscover his mojo.
Petit also drew comparisons between Rashford’s current predicament and Kai Havertz’s tricky three-year tenure at Chelsea. The German has shone after moving to Arsenal, notching up 13 goals in the league during his debut season.
Speaking on behalf of BoyleSports, Petit said: “I know Kai Havertz has improved massively at Arsenal, but it’s difficult to say whether Arteta could do the same with Rashford if he moved to the club.
“However, I have no doubt that Rashford needs a new start and I think Arsenal could be perfect for him. We all know the quality of Rashford for what he’s done in years at Man United, but everyone questioned Havertz and his position when he moved from Chelsea.
“Would Rashford be good at Arsenal? Give me the paper, and let me sign it for him right now! Rashford in a good environment would be incredible for the Gunners as they all look miserable at United. I saw what happened with the fan and I understand his frustration, so if Rashford wants to leave, he’s more than welcome at Arsenal and the door is open for him.”
He continued: “Havertz was in a difficult situation at Chelsea and he wasn’t happy, but at Arsenal, he is smiling again and you can actually see his teeth – I want that for Rashford.”
Arsenal has shown interest in a forward capable of playing on the wing in recent times. Mikel Arteta and co are keen on adding some rapid pace to their frontline as well as providing back-up for Bukayo Saka – and Rashford would be some transfer for the club.
If Arteta can tap into Rashford’s remarkable talent, the Red Devils academy graduate could certainly boost their title chase next season. Rashford achieved a career-high of 17 league goals across the 2022-23 season and 30 in all competitions.
