Marcus Rashford has been branded ‘disrespectful’ for what he did before coming off the bench for Manchester United in their Europa League victory over Bodo/Glimt.

Alejandro Garnacho’s early goal and a brace from Rasmus Hojlund helped the Red Devils to secure a 3-2 victory, boosting their hopes of reaching the Europa League knockout stages.

Rashford was named on the bench but was introduced just before the hour mark, coming on for Mason Mount. Just before stepping onto the pitch, he was seemingly instructed not to wear gloves by new United boss Ruben Amorim.

Despite a staff member standing directly behind him, Rashford hastily threw his gloves on the floor as opposed to handing them over.

Several viewers on social media were quick to criticise Rashford’s actions, with some branding him ‘disrespectful’ for throwing his gloves down while appearing to look at the member of staff behind him.

“That’s just disrespectful, I like Rashford but that’s not good,” wrote @RubensRedArmy_ on X (formerly Twitter). @chris_powley added: “The guy should have made him pick them up.”

@swanny1310 simply said: “Horrible attitude,” while @Matthecatt posted: “Don’t care who you are, show some respect.”

@EwoodRover quipped: “A flick to each ear would sort that issue out. Painful in the cold.”

@pattfurey, meanwhile, said: “Might only seem small but the example he’s setting here for younger kids learning the game is poor. Needs to be showing respect, the staff are there to help him. It takes half a second more to hand it to the staff.”

Others felt the incident had been blown out of proportion, with @WhyDeeZA posting: “Okay guys, can we just chill? It ain’t that deep.” @minustwentys added: “Analysing little things. Jobless to another new level.”

Another viewer, @jr_fundss, posed the question: “Does a matchday go by without people forcing controversy on Rashford?”

Rashford is a divisive figure at times but remains a crucial part of United’s attack and will be hoping to kick on under Amorim’s guidance this season.

He opened the scoring within two minutes against Ipswich Town last weekend and will be hoping to add to his tally when United host Everton in their next Premier League outing.

Rashford was recently challenged to improve his output by Amorim, who said earlier this week: “He has to be the first one to really want it, then he will have the help of all the staff and fans. He has to be Marcus. He is a Manchester United boy.”
