Marcus Rashford is set to leave Man Utd.
The Saudi Pro League is planning to offer Marcus Rashford a Manchester United escape route after he revealed he was ready for a new challenge, according to reports. Rashford is set to end his 20-year career at Old Trafford in the next two transfer windows and could become one of the latest high-profile arrivals in the Middle East.
Ruben Amorim excluded the 27-year-old from his squad as United clinched a dramatic 2-1 comeback victory against Manchester City in last Sunday’s derby.
A day later, Rashford fuelled exit rumours by admitting he was planning to walk away from his boyhood club in search of much-needed change.
According to the Telegraph, Saudi Arabia’s top four clubs – Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr and Al-Ahli – are all interested in the United No. 10.
His decision to publicly declare his discontent with his current situation is said to have gone down badly with Amorim, who will want players committed for the long term.
It’s claimed that Rashford is reluctant to leave Europe as he sets out to revive his England career, having not represented his country since a late substitute appearance against Brazil in March.
However, the Saudi Pro League has the Wythenshawe-born forward on a blockbuster shortlist of targets that also features Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne.
A summer transfer is considered more likely than in January, with the Saudi Pro League now in its winter break.
Ruben Amorim was disappointed by the comments.
Meanwhile, Rashford’s hopes of sealing a switch to another European club next month would likely require an initial loan with an obligation to buy.
But whether that appeals to United remains to be seen, given Rashford has scored seven goals this season and the club needs an immediate financial boost.
The report adds that the Red Devils would accept a cut-price fee worth around £40million. Yet, Rashford’s eye-watering wage will make any sale difficult.
He is believed to have agreed to terms worth over £325,000-a-week when he committed his future at Old Trafford with a new contract until 2028 last year.
Rashford’s negotiating position has also weakened due to his decision to announce his plans to switch clubs publicly.
United were reportedly open to offers in the summer but didn’t receive a single formal approach, and the situation among Europe’s elite may not have changed.
Rashford would reportedly favour a move to Spain, but La Liga’s top dogs, Barcelona and Real Madrid are considered unlikely destinations.
He has also been heavily linked with Paris Saint-Germain in recent years, but the Ligue 1 champions aren’t expected to enter the frame, either.
