Manchester United star sends message to Lionel Messi and Ronaldo won’t like it

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has hailed Lionel Messi as the world’s best ever player.

The Argentine defender was speaking in response to Lionel Messi‘s Instagram post yesterday, commemorating six months since their World Cup triumph.

Argentina beat France on penalties in Qatar 2022, with Lionel Messi scoring twice in the final.

He is currently back on international duty, scoring as Argentina beat Australia 2-0 in a friendly match held in China.

Lionel Messi is still clearly over the moon with his World Cup triumph, the culmination of a career goal; destiny, you could argue.

It was Argentina’s first World Cup win since 1986, with Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez playing his part through the tournament too.

Martinez wrote in response to Messi’s latest Instagram post, “Number one in the history of football.”

Lisandro Martinez’s former Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo won’t like his response – but the Argentine defender was always going to stay loyal to his compatriot.

Martinez and Ronaldo only played together briefly too. Messi and Martinez have played alongside each other ever since he made his Argentina debut in 2019.

One player who may have more split loyalties is Alejandro Garnacho, who grew up idolizing Ronaldo and received his first ever career assist from the Portugal star.

But last week he played alongside Lionel Messi for the first time, coming off the bench in Argentina’s win over Australia and sharing the pitch with the great man.

Argentina are in action again today when they face Indonesia, with Garnacho named as a substitute.
