Manchester United ‘confident’ as talks opened for Mason Mount
Following the disappointing FA Cup final defeat, attention turns to the transfer window with a midfielder on Erik ten Hag’s wishlist.
The most concrete rumours of who Manchester United are targeting point toward Chelsea’s Mason Mount.
According to The Times this deal looks more likely by the day.
They report that talks have been opened to sign the England international, with United ‘increasingly confident’ of securing his signature.
Mount has refused three new contract offers from the Stamford Bridge outlet. Chelsea reportedly value Mount at £70m, a fee United feel is steep considering his deal has just 12 months remaining.
Mount’s possible signing has been described by former United player John O’Shea as “fantastic”. The deal would likely mean the end to Christian Eriksen’s starting role at the club.
A replacement which seems to be increasingly needed and evident especially after Eriksen’s poor FA Cup final display.
How the United transfer window is shaping up
Manchester United are expected to sign multiple starters this summer with a goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and striker all linked to the club.
Diogo Costa seems to be the most likely number one to join the club. Kim min-Jae has been the strongest linked in defence.
Mount and Declan Rice are both potential acquisitions. Meanwhile upfront the new front runner is Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund.
On the departure side, it appears United are aiming for a clear out. Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial are among the senior player’s potentially leaving.
