Manchester United will reportedly consider selling Marcus Rashford in a cut-price £80million transfer. The forward’s relationship with Erik ten Hag is claimed to have deteriorated amid a poor season at Old Trafford last term.

Rashford scored only seven Premier League goals last season, failing to build on the previous term in which he bagged 30 times across all competitions. It is claimed that the 26-year-old was ‘barely on speaking terms’ with Ten Hag by the end of the season.

According to the Sun, INEOS’s decision to retain Ten Hag has thrown Rashford’s future up in the air. Club chiefs are claimed to want £80m for the England international with clubs across Europe likely to circle around a deal.

However, the report adds that United may be forced to accept only £60m due to Rashford’s poor form over the last 12 months.

The academy graduate apologised to Ten Hag after he was pictured partying in Belfast early into a morning on which he was due to report to the club’s Carrington training base. The Dutchman had already warned the United No 10 about his conduct after he was spotted partying hours following the club’s big defeat in last year’s Manchester derby.

A remarkable FA Cup triumph, earned thanks to a 2-1 win over rivals Manchester City in which Rashford was excellent, helped Ten Hag keep his job. United finished eighth in the Premier League and only qualified for the Europa League thanks to their domestic cup success.

Rashford has previously had interest from Paris Saint-Germain but it is unclear whether the French champions would be interested in a move again this summer. The Parisians have just lost star forward Kylian Mbappe, who has joined Real Madrid on a free transfer.

INEOS are expected to oversee a major overhaul of Ten Hag’s squad, with only a select few players considered not for sale. A deal for Dan Ashworth to take up the role of sporting director has finally been completed, nearly five months after he was placed on gardening leave by Newcastle.

United and Newcastle had struggled to agree a compensation package for the former FA technical director. Ashworth will now begin work immediately and his arrival is one of a number of changes made behind the scenes at Old Trafford.
