Manchester United are under pressure to secure their fifth summer signing before the clock strikes 11pm on Friday, August 30. INEOS have overseen a positive maiden transfer window, but Erik ten Hag is in desperate need of fresh blood in midfield before the deadline.

It’s no secret that Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte is the top target being pursued within the walls of Old Trafford.

But a swoop for the 23-year-old could be contingent on United’s success offloading players amid interest in Scott McTominay and Jadon Sancho.

Meanwhile, while the Red Devils are locked in on Ugarte, another of their primary targets has become the subject of serious interest from bitter rivals Liverpool.

INEOS and Ten Hag could face the ultimate final-week disappointment if both players evade their grasp.

Man Utd backed to draw vs Brighton

Alan Shearer isn’t convinced Manchester United will be able to beat Brighton and Hove Albion in today’s early Premier League kick-off.

He, instead, has tipped the two teams to play out a score draw at the Amex Stadium.

“Brighton had the outstanding result of the weekend, going to Everton with the new and youngest manager in the league and they were sensational,” Shearer told Betfair.

“Danny Welbeck up front, Kaoru Mitoma, Yankuba Minteh, who I know had to go off at half-time, but Simon Adingra came on who was superb as well. What a great result for  Brighton, going away and winning by three goals.

“It will be a very tough game for Manchester United. They got a result as well, of course, albeit they did not play that well, but they got the right result, which is the important thing at this stage of the season.

“It’s a tough one for Manchester United, to visit a team who won by three goals on the road last weekend. It’s a tough game to predict but I think it will be a score draw.”

Man Utd reject Scott McTominay bid

Manchester United have rejected a £21million bid from Napoli for Scott McTominay as INEOS stand firm on their valuation.

According to Fabrizio Romano, United are demanding at least £25m to part ways with the 27-year-old midfielder before the summer transfer deadline.

Antonio Conte is pushing to add McTominay to his squad, and Napoli could return with an improved offer in the coming week.

McTominay’s exit would unlock the arrival of Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte, who is waiting for United to strike an agreement.

Man Utd tipped for another nightmare

Michael Owen has questioned Manchester United’s decision to stick with Erik ten Hag this summer, tipping the club to endure another nightmare season due to a lack of change on the pitch.

“Manchester United were one of the first teams that I discounted for the top four to be honest. I’m surprised they didn’t change their manager when they were changing an awful lot in the summer,” Owen told OLBG.

“As I’ve said before, I don’t think Erik ten Hag is the right man for the job personally. The other frustration is that they have gone and signed players, and now Leny Yoro is out injured for the first chunk of the season, which is pretty demoralising for Manchester United fans and the club.

“There’s not been enough of a change out there on the pitch for me to believe there is going to be much of a change to their fortunes this season. They’ve had a couple of years now under Ten Hag; if we were going to see improvement, it would’ve been after six or seven months – not two years. I don’t see any change.

“They keep throwing money at players, but they’ve been doing that for 15 years now and it’s never worked. Why would it work now? After the top four, I’ve gone Newcastle fifth and then I’ve gone Spurs sixth and then United in seventh.”

Cole Palmer tipped for Man Utd

Jamie Carragher has tipped Cole Palmer to make a shock switch to Manchester United next summer if Chelsea endure another miserable season.

Palmer, who landed at Stamford Bridge from Manchester City in a £43million deal last year, is known to be a United supporter.

And Carragher wouldn’t be surprised to see him end up at Old Trafford if another 42-goal contribution season goes unrewarded.

“Something’s just come to me here,” Carragher said on The Overlap. “If Chelsea have another poor season, we were talking earlier about Manchester United having a real problem on that right wing.

“He [Palmer] is a big Man United fan, isn’t he? Would that not be something that United should visit maybe in 12 months if it doesn’t go well?

“You know what, I think that could happen. Yeah, Cole Palmer to Man United.”

Liverpool launch Jarrad Branthwaite hijack

Liverpool have made a stunning move to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, according to reports.

The Sun claim Liverpool are readying an eye-watering bid worth £70million to lure Branthwaite from Goodison Park.

There is said to be growing optimism a deal can be done, with the 22-year-old open to a move to Everton’s rivals.

It would come as a major blow to Manchester United, despite the arrivals of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt this summer.

United have seen two bids for Branthwaite rejected, the latest worth up to £50m. He undoubtedly remains on the transfer shortlist.

Manuel Ugarte wait continues

Manchester United fans are growing increasingly impatient at the delayed pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

The 23-year-old was excluded from the PSG squad for a second successive game on Friday as INEOS work hard to seal a deal.

United may require to raise funds by offloading Scott McTominay or Jadon Sancho before launching a swoop for Ugarte.

But if they fail to do so and PSG refuse to budge on their £51million transfer demand, time could run out this summer.

There is confidence an agreement will eventually be struck, but it looks set to enter the final week of the window.
