Valencia have bid for Mason Greenwood.
Manchester United look set to host a bidding war for Mason Greenwood this summer as Valencia enter the frame to sign him, according to reports. The Red Devils will look to sell Greenwood in the coming months, and his suitors are wasting no time in making their interest known ahead of the European transfer window.
Premier League clubs are now allowed to add players to their squads after the English transfer window opened on Friday.
European outfits must wait until July 1, but preparations are underway, and a queue appears to be forming for Greenwood, who is almost certain to leave United this summer.
The 22-year-old registered 10 goals and six assists in 32 appearances during his season-long loan at Getafe last season.
His performances reportedly attracted heavyweight interest, including from Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Napoli.
Juventus have been most strongly linked this week, with reports in Italy claiming they had agreed personal terms with Greenwood and had entered talks over a transfer fee.
But a new club that aligns with Greenwood’s transfer priority is said to have emerged, which could spark a bidding war in the coming weeks.
According to the Mirror, Valencia want to hand the United forward a route to remain in La Liga and have submitted a £25million offer for his signature.
Mason Greenwood wants to stay in Spain.
Valencia’s bid is said to be concrete, and sources close to Greenwood insist his preference would be to remain in Spain after settling into life in Madrid with his partner and their baby.
The report adds that United value their former No. 11 at around £40m as INEOS attempt to raise funds to boost a summer budget limited by FFP and PSR concerns.
Jadon Sancho is also up for sale for a similar price, joining the likes of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof as likely departures.
Juventus were claimed to have tabled a similar offer to Valencia, but both clubs and other suitors have work to do to get closer to United’s valuation.
Greenwood is entering the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, but there is an option of a 12-month extension until 2026.
It leaves United in a strong position in negotiations for the Bradford-born academy graduate, who would represent pure profit on the club’s books.
The M16 giants are believed to be open to another loan move if they aren’t satisfied by the offers on the table.
But they are only expected to sanction that outcome if there is an obligation to buy next summer included.
