Bruno Fernandes has paid homage to Man Utd.
Bruno Fernandes sent Manchester United fans into meltdown this morning by penning an emotional, honest and loving message about the club amid lurking transfer speculation. The Portuguese maestro has paid homage to the Red Devils ahead of tomorrow’s crunch FA Cup final against Manchester City.
Fernandes has been linked with a potential United exit this summer after a disastrous season, which included a Champions League group-stage exit and an eighth-place Premier League finish.
The 29-year-old midfielder is overwhelmingly the best signing of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era and will enter folklore as a club icon.
However, last season’s Carabao Cup was the only trophy he has lifted since joining United from Sporting Lisbon in January 2024.
He has the opportunity to clinch a second at Wembley Stadium this weekend, where United will try to avenge last year’s FA Cup final defeat against the same opposition.
Just over 24 hours before kick-off, Fernandes gave the fanbase a collective heart attack by producing a lengthy message on The Players’ Tribune, labelling it ‘Dear United’.
On the face of things, the United captain looked to be at least preparing to say goodbye ahead of a summer move.
But upon reading the emotional letter, it appears to be the opposite. Fernandes confirmed he wants to remain at Old Trafford as part of an outpour of affection for the club and its supporters.
Bruno Fernandes was Man Utd’s Player of the Year.
“After this difficult season, it is my responsibility to give more. It starts with me. And it starts tomorrow. We have to give everything in this last match against City, and we have to move forward,” Fernandes wrote.
“I love to step out at Old Trafford more than anything in the world. I don’t want to leave. This has always been my ultimate dream.
“I just want my expectations to fit with the expectations of the club. If you go talk to any fan, they will tell you the same thing.
“We want to compete for the league. We want to be playing Champions League football. We want to be in the cup finals. That is the standard. That is what I want. That is what you all deserve.
“I just want to keep fighting. I want to be here. My family wants to be here. If you doubt that for a moment, then you just have to look at my Spotify Wrapped, and that will prove it to you…”
One can only predict what features on Fernandes’ Spotify Wrapped beyond Glory Glory Man United. The Stones Roses? The Courteeners? United Calypso?
One thing’s for certain: he has made it clear that he desires to remain in Manchester.
But United must match his ambition on the pitch and off it, which leaves the ball on INEOS’ side of the court.
