Ruben Amorim touched down in England earlier this week to begin his tenure as Man Utd boss
Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho has been told “football isn’t for you” after he refused to celebrate his sensational goal against Leicester on Sunday. The winger curled in the Red Devils’ third goal of the match at Old Trafford as his side dispatched the visitors 3-0.
Garnacho has endured an underwhelming start to the season and was dropped to the bench on Sunday, with Amad Diallo starting in his place.
The Argentina international, 20, illustrated his prodigious talents in the last half an hour of the clash, however, and will be pushing for a regular starting place under new boss Ruben Amorim.
After the encounter with Leicester, United captain Bruno Fernandes shed light on Garnacho’s decision not to celebrate as he explained: “Garnacho scored a banger but didn’t celebrate like he should because he thinks he has lost faith from some fans.
“I told him people will always moan but lots of people like you and enjoy what you do. I told him to celebrate, it was something special.”
But Premier League icon Troy Deeney has now hit out at Garnacho by telling talkSPORT: “I said it last night on Match of the Day, and I’ll repeat it. It goes twofold.

Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho scored a sublime goal against Leicester on Sunday
“One, it says what players are like nowadays, where their skin is so thin that one gentleman can say what he wants to say and everyone sulks.
“And secondly, if he’s getting affected by that, I would say to him, just as an older pro, ‘[I] don’t think this football game is for you, big man’.”
The former striker then expanded on his comments as he added: “Because you play for the biggest club in world football. If you play poorly, you’re going to get people to get on your case. If you play really well, you’re still going to get people to get on your case. You play for Man United.
“It’s called jealousy and that’s part of the game. So, disappointed that he didn’t celebrate. It’s an unbelievable goal.
“But this will be the making or breaking of him because if he can’t handle that from one gentleman with an iPhone in his face, then I don’t think this is the game for him, unfortunately.”
Deeney’s comments will give Amorim food for thought at Old Trafford. The Portuguese coach touched down in Manchester at the start of the week to begin his Red Devils tenure and will take charge of his first United match at Ipswich on Sunday, November 24. And it remains to be seen whether Garnacho returns to the starting XI.
