Man Utd winger Amad has announced the passing of his mother.
Amad has announced the tragic passing of his brother’s mum on the eve of Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Brighton and Hove Albion. The 22-year-old winger took to social media on Friday night to reveal the heartbreaking news, and he has received a wave of love and support from all corners of the fanbase.
Amad is primed to enjoy a breakout campaign for United – three years since his £37million arrival from Atalanta – after playing a prominent role throughout pre-season.
He has started in both opening games against Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley and Fulham in last week’s Premier League curtain-raiser at Old Trafford.
But the Ivory Coast international could be a doubt for Saturday’s trip to the Amex Stadium as he mourns the loss of his close relative, who isn’t his biological mother.
He informed his followers of the news on Snapchat, posting a picture of his brother’s mum carrying him with the caption: “Rest in peace Mum, may Allah forgive you.”
Amad has made no secret of the bond the pair shared during his time at United, previously claiming that she was in tears over the phone after he was handed his debut in 2021.
“It was all so hard to believe. After I made my United debut against Real Sociedad, I called my mum after the game and she was in tears, saying that she couldn’t believe it,” Amad told the club website.

Amad is primed for a breakout season at Man Utd.
“For me, it was an incredible feeling because getting to play at the highest level only happens once in a lifetime.
“Mum was really proud of me. She was always confident that I would make it to the top. But she always told me to stay humble, to work hard and never give up.
“So, when she saw me play those eight minutes or so, it was everything to her. We couldn’t believe it.”
Amad has totalled 23 senior appearances since making his bow against La Real, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
The Red Devils No. 16 spent an unsuccessful stint on loan at Rangers in the second half of the 2021/22 season, registering three goals in 13 games.
But he made a name for himself in English football the following campaign, notching 14 goals and four assists for Sunderland in the Championship.
Amad hasn’t looked back since and now appears to have leapfrogged Antony and Jadon Sancho in Erik ten Hag’s wing pecking order.
He is set to share right-wing duties with Alejandro Garnacho this season, while he can also cover in attacking midfield.
